These will be discussion based where people bring examples of their current writing for sharing (read silently) and to spark discussion. The goal is simply to help foster a community of writers in Austin, and provide continuity …

[Resuming again in November 2012. Thanks for your patience!] We are people who meet to be creative in nature. Our events are outings. We walk to places in nature where we break to be creative. We do not talk during our breaks, but we talk again afterwards to share our creations. We are an artsy group, not a hiking group. All who seek to create from nature are welcome, whatever your art, whether you write, draw, paint, sculpt, craft, photograph, dance, philosophize, or meditate for inspiration. P …

Overview Most of the time, WriteByNight is hard at work providing customized writers' services to novices and professionals alike. But on select days and times, we draw the shades, turn off our ringers and open our doors to writers on the prowl for a quiet, comfy haven where they can write, read, collaborate or just kick back and dream. We’ve got a library, writing prompts, coffee and free Wi-Fi. What more could a writer ask for? Objective Write Here allows you to carve out much-needed writing …
Artists, Musicians, Makers, Dancers, Crafters, Designers, Reiki Masters, Massage Lovers, Tattoo Lovers, Lovers of the Weird, Tarot Readers, Burners, Hoopers, Fire Dancers, Yogi's, and just interesting folks who love life, love connecting and creating and sharing. It is more of a state of mind than a particular job or hobby that brings us together at "The Weirdery". We are not just "outside the box" thinkers, we have grabbed the box, painted it, added a few feathers and turned it into a cool lam …

Professional commitments have prevented the founding organizers of this group from continuing as the leaders, so we're in the process of re-booting and expect to resume meeting in March. A writing group for the early birds or wannabe early birds who aspire to get some writing done in the early hours before the day everything. This is not an evaluation or critique meetup (necessarily), but just a shared commitment to starting the day with coffee, camaraderie and keystrokes. May it serve as a building block for your morning writing practice no matter what kind of writing you're doing. At this time there is one weekly meeting, Sunday morning. Saturdays and weekdays have been discus …
Real Writers is called Academic because it is designed to be like a workshop you would take at a big university, where the instructor would take seriously the fundamentals of literary techniques and straightforward criticism about member writing in order to understand those techniques. Real Writers is a literary workshop in which substantial literary ideas are developed in order to facilitate 'real' writing both in the form of literature and in related media. Any writer or artist could potential …

The Austin Writers Roulette features a different monthly theme and line up of artists who love to perform their original written works such as poetry, essays, spoken word, singer-songwriting, or excerpts from novels. Artists also have the opportunity to set up a vendor table at the roulette. Although the roulette is not an open mic, interested artists who would like to read for an upcoming event should first attend a roulette. And of course, performance art lovers are always welcome!

We'll meet in my home in NW Austin and we aren't snooty about any of it, we just love poetry. Join us on facebook!

We welcome non-writers, as well! We are a group of people who express our mess of words in short, perfunctory pulses. There is no room for cliché (and hardly any for adjective) in our work. We want to be moved by others, and we hope to do the moving from time to time. We encourage writing with truth, clarity, and passion, and love it when reciting borders on Slam. Come to watch, read, share, recite, laugh, and drink (beer or coffee, depending on the time of day). Don't come to feed us rainbows. …
