The Bay Area has a thriving performance scene with readings, Open-Mics and Slams pretty much every night of the week on one side of the bay or another. This is a group that's all about getting you out to these shows and, hopefully, on to the mic! We'll include all kinds of shows and workshops (poetry, comedy, slams, acoustic, improv, storytelling, etc.) as long as the mic is OPEN you're welcome* to post it here. *if you list a show all that we ask is you offer a discount to members of the group

Fiction writers and poets from the Bay area give an hour or so of their time once or twice a month to help others in dire need. We work with local charities and volunteer organizations, and in exchange, WHO provides time and resources to discuss creative writing, poetry, novel writing, and getting published in today's market. The free Cafe la Boheme writing practice has now gone on continuously every Friday at noon since March 27, 2009. Every Friday a little before noon people gather at a table. They write short phrases on scraps of paper and fold them and put them in the center of the table. Somebody sets a timer and picks a prompt at random and reads it aloud. Everybody writes. Inviting writers in all genres, published or not, to share work and provide constructive feedback in an informal, supportive environment.
