I like unique events that aren't stuffy and a little off the beaten path. I am interested in poetry readings, lectures, book signings, theater, art openings, experimental music, and other related events. I'm hoping to find a few like minded folks in the Bay Area who would like to attend these events on occasion with me! I am looking for cheap stuff to do so you won't find any opera or symphony events here (unless they're free!) So many artists out there, it's great to support your local art scen …

The discussion is what is most important. We discuss these works to enlarge our understanding of the ideas that shape our culture and gain a deeper appreciation for what it means to be human.

Small groups will get together to read aloud to one another and appreciate the written and spoken word (and simply have a good time). Each person brings a short selection (fiction, poetry, nonfiction, whatever). Folks also bring drink and nibbles to share. Fancy or not. Meetings will vary; formats will evolve. My small kitchen will be the setting for some events; perhaps others will volunteer their kitchens as well. We may also decide to have thematic events, such as reading appropriate selectio …

We also arrange social meets, group readings, meetings with agents and professionals, and brainstorm novel ways to raise money for charity. We also intend to publish a BEST …

For the poet in us, we share poetry, creative writing …

We will commit to co-creating an atmosphere that offers deep listening, unwavering compassion -- and potentially life-altering challenge to the status quo. This ongoing group will explore and practice ways to 1) Access our deepest wisdom, and 2) More completely integrate and embody that wisdom in all aspects of our lives. In this process, we’ll draw respectfully from many s …
The free Cafe la Boheme writing practice has now gone on continuously every Friday at noon since March 27, 2009. Every Friday a little before noon people gather at a table. They write short phrases on scraps of paper and fold them and put them in the center of the table. Somebody sets a timer and picks a prompt at random and reads it aloud. Everybody writes. When the timer goes off we go around the table and read aloud one by one. Nobody comments. We just read aloud. Then the next person picks a …

Writing offers a way for people to connect to deeper, wiser aspects of ourselves – a way for us to find out, as the poet Audre Lorde said, “what we didn’t know we knew.” Almost every writer has experienced mysterious moments when the words that flow from our pens, or from our fingers on a keyboard, seem as if they come from someplace else – a place beyond our small human selves. Sometimes, when we let it happen, it’s as if the words become a little boat, a raft on which we can sail in a larger s …
