We have members for the Houston Slam Team preparing for the National Poetry Slam during August in Madison, Wisconsin - but anything can happen, right? So we need poets on reserve to fill vacancies on the team should a vacancy arise. Only one reserve poet will actually go with the team to Madison to be prepared to perform on an emergency basis only.

If you are a poet interested in being on the Houston Slam Team, come out and compete. If you're curious about poetry slam, come out and hang out with some poets. If you're opinionated, come and judge the slam.
If you'd like to volunteer to help us out with organizing our slam and other poetry events come and meet two board members of Writer's Ink - the non profit that organizes Houston Poetry Slam.

This was great! It was standing room only! Those of you who couldn't make it missed out on great poetry! There were two feature poets - one from Denver: Nietche. She was phenomenal! Oh, yeah, and the slam was great two. A lovely Arab woman called Queen Sheba won the alternate spot on our team!

You can do any type of subject matter at a poetry slam or any style of poetry. But if you want to win consistently, you need performance poetry (or so called "slam poetry"). Notsuoh and it's patrons are mostly not traditional, spiritual Christians, but they are very respectful of any poetry on the open mic as long as they feel they are not being preached to. Everyone likes to be inspired, so inspirational work will be appreciated.

What I do is not slam poetry. Its more like spoken word on the spiritual side. Example: The GOSPEL is Godâ??s, Offering of, Salvation, Proclamation of, Eternal, Life/ So don't test me! I feel this LIFE: Living, In, Faith, Everyday. This is just an example of what I do. So let me know if Slam poetry is for me. I would love to come out and let you hear what I got. My Thang: Poetic Prophet. (I prophesies words,)
